Just like music, the art of sampling and recycling art can be incredibly useful to artists and designers alike. Taking inspiration or ‘stealing like an artist’ is an important technique in keeping designs alive. If something can only be used once theres no point to it.
For this album design I used a box from a Yashica Flash Gun and modified the design to fit the shape and design of an album cover Livin’ Proof (1995) this is the debut album of hip-hop duo Group Home, consisting of Melachi the Nutcracker & Lil’ Dap. The original album cover for this album does not strike me as iconic or very memorable, despite the great quality of the album, so I put myself up to the challenge of re-designing it in my style.
